Blog Journalism
Blogging: A Writer’s Journal
A novel way for a writer to keep prospects and fans in the loop on their progress as a writer is through the use of a web log or ‘Blog’.
“This notion of self-publishing, which is what Blogger and blogging are really about, is the next big wave of human communication. The last big wave was Web activity. Before that one it was e-mail.” – Eric Schmidt
This online tool has allowed many writers to share thoughts, humor, politics, and more with any and all who would visit. Since the Internet is a device of connectivity it also allows for immediate feedback in ways standard publishing cannot offer.
Essentially the web has created a means for someone who has not been discovered to find an audience who is interested in what they have to say.
For some, a blog is intended to be private in that they do not promote the blog for mass consumption, however with the growth of blogging it has become more difficult to ensure your blog will remain essentially a private journal.
As Eric Schmidt pointed out, blogging has become a form of self-publishing. In this case the author becomes the editor and publisher and has total artistic control. The use of Google Adsense can also provide residual income to help pay for any costs associated with your blog.
A blog can be very useful to a writer. It provides an outlet for regular writing, but it also allows people who enjoy your work to take in your regular posts and feel a greater connection to you. Some random blog-thought has been transformed by their owners into long form articles and stories.
“At its best, blogging is all about change. The format suits writers who want to move fast.” – Naomi Darvell
Many blogging sites allow the use of photographs and audio. For instance, if you had a book signing you could use photos from the event in the body of your blog. If you have a recording of a portion of your book that you are authorized to rebroadcast it also can be placed in your blog. Links can be provided to encourage visitors to check out similar blogs by other writing friends – and best of all a blog can assist visitors in finding where they may find other work you’ve produced along with information on how to purchase any available books you may have.
People who enjoy reading blogs will find a circle of blogs that entertain, inspire, and make them think or laugh. Having a blog that is tied into a personal website can go a long way in connecting with those who may already have an appreciation for your work.

Blog Vintage Fashion
What is the latest fashion?
Womens fashion includes the most incredible outfits, items of clothing that are extraordinary and fashion accessories that dazzle the eyes. The word diverse can also be used when it comes to mens fashion, with the latest proposed designs impressing even those with a set taste for the classic fashion style. Where does the Internet fall in all that? It helps us discover fashion tips, juicy information from the fashion world and even the shops from where we can make the most diverse purchases.
With just one shop guide, you can discover all the fashion design tendencies you can think of. The good news is that you can search according to gender, meaning men or womens clothing, but also to the fashion designer responsible for the collection or the actual items of clothing you are interested in. For example, if you prefer vintage fashion trends, then you can use the online shop guide in order to find such a store and do all your shopping from there. On the other hand, if you are more interested in fashion designers, you can search for stores that have clothes only from one designer in particular.
The shop guide is useful if you want to find fashion handbags and other popular fashion accessories to match your outfit. You can search for jeans, footwear, dresses, T-shirts and jackets, finding the exact shops that specialize in selling the items you are interested in. The same goes for swimsuits, naughty lingerie and any other item that can qualify under fashion clothing. The fashion blog can also be interesting to visit, as it will provide you with all the info on modern tendencies, acting as your very own source of inspiration. Entire shopping areas are presented through the shop area and, considering all the shops presented there, you can even make an entire day out of your shopping experience.
Why do we hold on so much to fashion trends? Because it is simply great to be able to follow the latest tendencies, to see everyone appreciating our sense of style and the items we wear on a regular basis. The shop guide is indeed a particular useful resource and, together with the fashion blog, it shows us where fashion stands at the present. It offers insight information on the most popular (must-visit) stores but also on the street fashion that is definitely interesting to discover from a new perspective.
Whether you want to purchase leather shoes, a new fashion handbag or the latest fashion suits for women, the truth is that there are a couple of shops that are definitely worth visiting. Discover them with the help of the shop guide and return to this online resource whenever you feel like going out on a shopping spree. It is a different thing to go shopping armed with information about the best shops in town, that is for certain!

Online Domain Name Generators
Optimise Your Business By Getting Online
Web hosting is essentially a service that allows you to operate your own website on the World Wide Web. And, with more and more people across the globe using the internet to browse and purchase products and services, it makes sense to have a strong online presence. A website that allows customers to communicate with you, find out more about your business and even make potential purchases is central to business success; therefore, it is important that you make sure your business gets the online persona it deserves.
The companies that provide web hosting services are referred to as web hosts and they simply provide clients with the necessary space on a server, along with internet connectivity. There are often several web hosting packages to choose from and as each offers different alternatives, be sure to choose the most suitable one for your business.
Factors to consider when perusing web hosting packages include ecommerce capability, web space available and whether any domain names are included in the package. Put simply, a domain name is the address that people use to find your company online. Domain names can be purchased separately, but some web hosts offer a free domain(s) as part of a hosting package; and is a good cost-cutting feature to look out for.
Some hosting packages also include templates and tools which enable you to build a website for your business. And in today’s society, a website is undeniably a great asset for your business and an important revenue generation.
Getting your business online needn’t be a difficult task and getting it right the first time can save you money and resources in the long run. When thinking about your organisations online image and presence, it helps to find out what your customers think. A spot of market research can stand you in good stead when it comes to website development; therefore, take a look at your competitor’s websites and think objectively about what customers would want and expect from your website.
There’s a lot to be said for keeping things simple when it comes to the design and layout of your website. If you make it easy for customers to navigate their way around your site then they’re more likely to find what they are looking for from your website, which is good news for everyone involved.
What’s more, use intuitive menus, regularly update the necessary links and make sure all the information your customers could possibly need is available within a few clicks. In addition, keep the web pages short so that anyone using your site doesn’t have to scroll through page upon page of text to find the details they need.
The same principle can be applied when considering domains. If you keep your web address simple, it’s more likely that customers will find and remember your website. And considering getting noticed online is one of the most important issues to ensure that your business moves forward, such simple changes could make a difference for the online presence of your business.

Debate – Swine Flu in India – Is it all over?
It was not even a month back when the first swine flu death happened in India of a 14 year old girl in Pune. Soon after, within another 10 days the swine flu toll in India rose to around 25.
If you are thinking that this post is about discussing the reasons of the spread of swine flu or the measures being taken in India and worldwide to curb the spread of it, well then you are wrong. Surely, I would be discussing few measures or rather few measures not been taken by the Indian Government, but would also be discussing something very peculiar and strange about how the Indian Media is reacting in the last couple of days/weeks.
Less than 10 days back, I travelled to New Delhi from Dubai, and was expecting to be checked thoroughly by the health officials at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, and thought it would take a good 2 hours before I could leave the airport premises. It took me flat 20 minutes to be out of the Airport after I unboarded the aircraft! Even though, my family and I were pleasantly surprised to be out of the airport so soon, which was faster than even the usual when no such flu scare etc is on, the thought of not been checked at all for swine flu, and signing just a declaration that I have no flu like symptoms made my mind boggle. Making my irritation grow further was the fact that the Health Officials were not even wearing the special N-95 masks which are the best for curbing the flu, but were just wearing the usual face mask.
I asked at the airport around, if the thermal machines which were supposed be installed were already done or what? The answer from the aiport officials ranged from a ‘not yet‘ to ‘no idea‘ to ‘ask health ministry‘! I thought ‘WOW’, our country where each government boast about ‘India Shining’ and slogans alike year after year, just can’t take proper measures to curb a flu from spreading, forget actually curbing it! The Health Minister, for the spread of Swine Flu, was busy accusing the dead child and her family for switching hospitals in Pune, and helping the flu spread!! Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad should resign from his post simply for the sake of Humanity. Before making his statement, he forgot that the small girl who died did not develop the flu herself, but she also got it from someone else, and that the spread would’nt have stopped by her not shifting hospitals.
With the speed at which the flu is spreading in India, and the measures being taken which are astonishingly yet not surprisingly pathetic, the number of cases and the seriousness of this entire pendemic in India shall affect majorly even the Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010. The government other than facing the huge infrastructure/construction problem for the games, would also have to deal with the health scenario. The way things are going, it seems it shall only lead to shame.
Now coming to the peculiar and strange part regarding how the Indian Media is acting in the last couple of days/weeks.
I am sure not many of you know what is the death toll due to swine flu in India currently. Make a guess – 30? 45? 60? 80?. The current death toll due to swine flu in India is 105 (September 02, 2009). Yes, in two weeks time from 25, we have gone up to 105, and the print & TV media has almost done a blackout on news related to Swine Flu. When the death toll rose from 1 to 25 in a week, The Times of India, during that week, on its website had a countdown meter showing the number of deaths rising each hour, and each day, almost as if how ‘cricket runs being scored’ are shown on News Channels and News Websites. Go watch any news channel, and you would feel as if there is nothing in this world called Swine Flu!
What do you think? Does any reason come to your mind why such a drastic change in the way the media is reacting in the last few days? Surely, it is the government which has gone up to every media house in the country to make them agree on resisting from showing news regarding Swine Flu. Obviously, I am speculating here that the Government and the Media together have taken few steps, but surely, it seems to be a joint effort, otherwise our media which likes to sensationalise every ‘Tom, Dick and Harry‘ issue would have never tone down their stand, specially for a real issue such as this!
You do not have to be a rocket scientist or an intelligent political analyst to guess why these steps has been taken. Obviously to stop the spread of the scare/panic amongst people in the country, as higher the scare, higher the chances of public opinion going against the ruling government. Few people might counter by saying that less the scare, less the chances of spreading the flu, and leading a normal life, etc. Bullshit and non justifiable nonsense if you think like that!
I think it is the most pathetic and foolish step to be taken by the government/media both, if they have. In our country, people wear masks only when there is a real scare in the public. It is not Japan, where people wear masks even if they have just a mild fever. For god sake, the government should realise that they are governing India, where 90% of the people are proven affected from the ‘Chalta Hai‘ syndrome. By reducing the scare and the panic amongst the people, the number of deaths shall only rise, as the lesser number of people would then take precautions. Case in point – Since the last two weeks of blackout of news of swine flu, the number of cases and deaths have multiplied manifold. We have close to 4200 cases tested positive for H1N1, out of which 675 alone are in New Delhi, leave aside the epicentre of the flu in India, Pune (cases as on 2nd september 2009).
For once, I really hope, that India TV & Rajat Sharma and the likes of them sensationalize this issue and let the scare and panic grow in the public, as only then, the rate at which the deaths are happening would reduce, because the government as usual is only speaking and not taking the required actions.
As always, comments welcome. (This was originally posted on my blog FULL START. )

An Ode to Snow White
As far back as I can remember, I’ve always considered myself an eccentric. As a kid (until now), my favorite tales were Foolish Frances, and The Snow Queen. I never (and I mean NEVER) enjoyed reading fairy tales like Snow White, Cinderella, or Sleeping Beauty.
Why in the world were they considered heroines in the first place? What was it they had that made them stand out? Which quality was it that made them superior to their next door neighbor or even their stepsisters?
Maybe I envied them. Maybe not.
Yes, they were kind, no doubt about that. But not ‘saintly’.
Maybe they were smart. But not ‘ingenious’.
What made them such ‘trophies’ worthy enough for Prince Charming to risk his neck for? (I don’t even know why he’s such a catch himself when all I know about him is that he’s filthy stinkin’ rich and always on a white horse, but that’s another topic…………….)
I’m sure you know why. They were all stunningly gorgeous.
Fairy tales like Snow White made me even more insecure than I already was. I used to curse the cute girls in grade school. Just because they were so darn white, they caught all they boys’ attention. Even in high school where only the va-va-voom sexy ones got dates to the prom. I would imprecate them because they had what I did not.
We are at an age where physical beauty is such a commodity. It’s so commercialized. I, for one, used to think that the only people who claimed to have ‘inner beauty’ were the ones who lacked it’s physical component. I used to think that the only way to get a man to notice you was if you had flawless white skin, a 36-24-36 frame, and a face to rival any beauty queen.
I look at modern day philanthropists like (the late) Princess Diana, Queen Rania, or even Angelina Jolie. If they weren’t as stunning as they are, would they still be as hounded as they are by the media? Would they still be exemplified as modern day heroines?
What about women like Marie Curie and Mother Teresa. Or Filipinas like Gabriela Silang and Teodora Alonzo. Or Margaret Thatcher, Indira Gandhi, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, and Corazon Aquino. To me, they are the epitome of beauty.
Maybe it’s called midlife or probably a certain level of maturity to be able to see past the external. There’s some beauty we see, some we even hear, but the most resplendent, we feel inside.
Physical beauty is so f***in’ overrated.
So here’s to us plain janes. Myself, Melai, Ate Sienna, and all Pinay bloggers out there………….. Let us bask in splendiferous glory and our beautiful Kayumanggi skin. Mabuhay!!!

Domain Name Protection Act
How Much Does Your Domain Name Really Cost You?
It may surprise you to know that one of the most popular questions I get asked by newcomers to internet marketing is related to buying a domain name.
Now I know if you’ve been around a little while you’re probably thinking “Buying a domain name! How hard is that? Just choose your name, click and buy!” But actually, on reflection, it can be a bit of a minefield out there…
From the minute you arrive at your preferred domain seller you’re bombarded with choices, processes and options that are designed to get you spend a deal more than, say, the $4.99 you Originally thought your shiny new domain name was going to cost you.
I decided to pop along to my local domain shop (read click on a bookmark and login) and take a look at exactly what’s on offer and whether all these add-ons and extras are totally essential.
1) OK, so the first thing I see before I even type in the domain name I want to buy is that there’s a “Sale” on certain suffixes like .com .net .org
2) I type in my domain name – domain-name-confusion.com – and click the ‘next’ button and ‘fantastic’, it’s available, but hang on… I can also buy domain-name-confusion.US .NAME .BIZ etc and many more. I can also choose from MYdomain-name-confusion, EASYdomain-name-confusion, domain-name-confusionONLINE, domain-name-confusionSTORE and myriad other combinations
3) I decide that no, I’m just going to stick to my original choice of domain-name-confusion.com and so I don’t check any of the other boxes. I proceed on to what I think is the checkout but OH NO… again I’m being asked to STOP!
Why don’t I protect my brand and increase my traffic by buying the .org .net and .info – and I’m even offered a really amazing “special price” to buy the job lot! And what’s more there’s a special box with a list of compelling reasons why I really should do this
4) No thanks, I still want to stick to my original domain-name-confusion.com so I click on the checkout button, AGAIN!
Great! We’re onto the summary page where I’m told what I’m ordering.
But WAIT! Do I want my domain name certified for an extra $2.99? Do I want email adding to my domain for an extra $1.99? Is that Complete or Deluxe, Madam? How about Hosting, Sitebuilder, a blog or even some traffic driving software? Is that Standard, Deluxe or Protected, Madam?
5) No, honestly, you’re too kind, but I simply want to buy the domain name! Click on the checkout button, AGAIN!
Phew, the checkout at last! But wait, do I want to add protection to my domain name and make it ‘private’? Do I want to add another domain name? Am I sure I don’t want the .NET OR .INFO?
Quite a marathon, huh? And, of course, when you are all wrapped up in the dream of having your own website and wanting to make it perfect from the outset, you are vulnerable to emotional suggestions. PROTECT, INCREASE, EXPAND, ATTRACT…
So let’s take a look to see if you need all these unfamiliar, but reasonable-sounding options?
Do You Need Extra Domain Suffixes?
You can register a .com domain name with several very reputable registrars for, say, $6.99/yr to $9.99/yr. Fees for registering the other possibilities, .info, .co.uk, .net, .org, .biz, .tv can range from $0.99 per year to whatever the registering company wants to charge.
But is it going to be worth it? And where do you stop with the combinations? .com, .co.uk, .info and then there’s the ‘do I add a dash ( – ) just-to-be-on-the-safe-side.com, .org, .biz’ ? I would say, probably not. The .com brand is so widely known that most people will automatically type in a .com extension on any website they are trying to find.
Private Registration
This option will keep your private details, name, physical address and email address unavailable to anyone checking the ownership of your domain on “Whois”. Internet law requires that all information about domain registration be publicly available and “Whois” maintains the databases that hold this information.
If you buy a private registration, your details will not be available to just anyone who wants to check your domain for specific ownership. There are many domain owners who don’t think this is necessary but, on the other hand, private registration can help you avoid spam, crank emails and unwanted phone calls.
It is worth bearing in mind that any emails you send from the US that are commercial in nature, like:
i) Promoting a product or affiliation
ii) Suggesting that the reader visit your sales page
iii) Offering a discount for purchasing some product
are required, by the US Can-Spam Act, to have your correct, physical mailing address visible to your email recipients and the correct email address you sent the advertisement from, so this kind of defeats the object of private registration in some ways.
Protected Registration
This form of domain registration protects you from inadvertent expiration of your domain registration, including credit card expiration, failed billing or outdated contact information. It also makes it more difficult to accomplish most malicious domain transfers by Internet predators. Effectively, your domain would be held for you until you renewed the registration.
It can cost more than $25 a year for this service, depending on who you are using for this protection. If you are a small marketing venture, selling a piece of software, an affiliate product or an ebook on a niche product, you may not need this upsell. However, if later your domain starts making lots of money, and you decide that you do need it, you can easily add it.
Business Registration
This level of domain registration keeps need-to-know information about your business in the Whois database. That information can include a map to your store, website photo, business description, phone number and links to vital pages of your website.
The vital information your customers might need to facilitate business deals with your business is visible to millions of searchers in the Whois domain name database.
Do you need it? That would depend on the nature and size of your business and your budget. This would be more of a marketing/budget decision. A small, start-up website selling one ebook would probably not need this additional service.
How Many Years Do You Need?
Every time you register a domain name, regardless of the service you choose to use for the registration, you will be offered a multi-year registration at a discount. It is up to you whether you consider this offer to be a good deal, but you might want to consider something before you do it.
Are you positive that you will still want to own the domain name after the first year? Will you still be in business in a year? Will you have graduated to a bigger, much different online business or another business entirely?
If you take a multi-year package, the registrar will get all the money up front and you will not get a refund if you change your business or drop out entirely.
Hosting On The Domain Registry Site
This is a likely time-saving upsell you will be offered when you register your domain name. It seems like it would be an easy, time-saving option to buy. Your domain and website would be in the same place.
Most Internet Marketers, if asked, would advise against doing this. Putting all your eggs in one basket means your entire business disappears if the domain registrar quits doing registrations or generally just goes out of business.
A better choice would be to find another hosting company that provides the options you need to make your website what you want it to be.
Finally…
The multitude of domain registrars on the internet will guarantee that there will be more offers to upgrade or to buy packages with various multiple options that sound fantastic on the surface. Since it’s your money at stake, it might be wise to carefully consider what you actually need right now…not a year down the line. By then your needs could be far different than anticipated originally.

Domain Name Optimization
Understanding Domain Names
UNDERSTANDING DOMAIN NAMES
As we know , there is nobody who controls the Internet. Then you might wonder as to who registers domain name the name to the users. An addressing system was designed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). The addressing scheme assigns names and numbers to identify the computes on the Internet. These names are called domain names and numbers are called IP addresses.
Every computer system on the Internet has both a domain name and an IP address. This address contains four sets of numbers separated by periods or dots. Each set of numbers can have the values ranging from 1 to 255. The numbers between the dots is called an octet. An IP address is organized from left to right where the leftmost represents the largest network organization and the rightmost octet describes the actual network connection. These combined parts are always unique for the given host. This Domain name scheme has been proved good but the numbers become difficult to manage and to quite an extent impossible to remember. A method for recognition of computers by names was therefore devised. A smaller network making up the Internet, and having many computers or even smaller networks within it, is called a domain. This domain may represent either a type of organization or a geographical location. Smaller networks and computers forming part of the domain may be further split up into sub domains. You should be cautious in the process of domain name registration, as the domain names are the key element used for searching and recognizing sites on the web presence effortlessly
Various options for Network providers are:
com - A company of commercial organization
net - Network resources or Internet service provider
mil - Available to United States Government agencies including the US military
org - Organization, like Non profit Government Organizations (NGOs). Religious
bodies etc.
gov - Government organizations
edu - Educational institutions, colleges, schools etc
Other domains include .biz, .cat, .info, .mobi, .name,.pro, .travel, .tv, .ws, .to
Some other options for countries are
au - Australia
uk - United Kingdom
usa - Unites States of America
fr - France
ca - Canada
Some of the domain name registrars offering domain name registeration services include Go Daddy, Network Solutions, ENOM, Tucows, Register.com, Melbourne IT, etc

Domain Name Tips
Identifying Expired Domain Buyers – Tips and Ideas (Part II)
Copyright (c) 2009 John Khu
Entrepreneurs and business owners look out for expired domains that can act as their gateways to the world of online business. Once again, people will have different interests, goals, objectives, needs and requirements for their expired domain names. Out of every ten expired domains sold in the market, nearly seven of them belong to this category. The reasons are too obvious; a majority of people buys them to set up an online business, while others buy them to host web portals that are non-profit in nature. Several types of expired domain buyers make expired-domains-for-business type of users. Here is some information on how to deal with such expired domain buyers.
Buyers interested in project or academic based expired domain names: Some people who deal with academic based research projects and assignments would like to buy names connected with the topic. Web sites that belong to this category are non-business in nature, but deal with some aspects of commercialism. Making money out of these expired domains based web sites is quite difficult unless someone sells research and white papers.
Buyers interested in expired domain names that create monetary gains: A majority of the buyers belong to this category. People who buy these types of domains feel that there is something profitable in these domains. It could be incoming traffic or even PageRank. Smart expired web domain buyers usually look for misspelled names or those names that emerge out of keyword insertion procedure. When a person buys misspelled web expired domains from you, he or she is trying to create a smart landing page, where a web user can see plenty of advertisements. In addition, people may also buy expired domains to redirect their web users to another web site of much higher commercial importance. You will need to attract these buyers because most of them want to buy domains just to make money. The RPI is very high for this trading category. Affiliate marketers always search for keyword based domain names, while online entrepreneurs are keener on buying domains for their SEO enabled web sites.
Buyers who buy a large inventory of domain names: These are the cream of the expired domain trading industry. They make a living out expired domain by selling them at decent profits. People buy these domains in large numbers and use for a number of purposes. Most of these domain traders park their domains to earn substantial amount of income, while others may rent their names out or even resell at high profits. Renting out domains is a recent trend and it is fairly success, because some people are desperate to use keyword-enriched domains that are not in their inventory.
Buyers who buy domains for speculation: People who buy expired domains for speculation purposes are usually cash-rich. These people believe that at least some of their domain names will have immense value in the near future. Smart domain sellers can foresee favorable changes in the domain market and they use this sensitive information to buy only the best domains names, purely for commercial purposes.

Where can I get a Domain name availability search script where people can search for new domains? – Thanks!
Matt’s Whois is a pretty slick free script. It has support for many TLDs, and a built in template system so you can customize the look somewhat. http://www.mattsscripts.co.uk/mwhois.htm
It’s also open source (GPL), so if you’re comfortable modifying the code you can customize it as much as you like. Even redirect searchers to an affiliate link after they’ve found a name they want to purchase. PHP and Perl versions are available.
You might also want to look at:
CJ Domain Whois
PHP, not open source, free and paid versions available, supports affiliate links.
