Google Dance – What You Need to Know About It?

Google Dance is the term coined to describe the index update of the Google search engine. Though there is no fixed date or time for the update, it occurs once every month on an average. And while the update is on, there is significant activity and movement in search results, especially so in Google’s cache of indexed web pages that mark the status of its last crawl. However, the index update is not about switching from one index on to another. Rather, the index update takes several days to get completed and during this time, the old and the new index alternate on Google. In the start, the new index results appear only once in a while but later on the frequency goes up until it stabilizes on a point.

This is why the term ’Google Dance’ is used to refer to the index updates.

Technical Aspects of Google Dance
Google extracts its search results from more than 10,000 simple Linux servers. Index update cannot happen on all these servers simultaneously. The new index has to be updated on the servers one after another

There is a common misconception among webmasters that Google can actually control how the servers with the new index as well as the old index respond to search queries. However, because the Google index is inverse, it becomes a very complicated procedure. The fact is that Google does not control the search results during the index update phase. Rather, the whole movement of search results is because of how Google uses DNS (Domain Name System).

DNS – Domain Name System and Google Dance
All of Google’s ten thousand servers are located across many different data centers across the world. For Google to direct traffic to all the data centers, it should record all the search queries centrally and then transport them to different data centers. However, the process can be highly inefficient. All data centers have their particular IP addresses and the DNS manages the access methodology of these IP addresses.

How does the DNS work?
Data is always transferred between specific IP addresses on the Internet. DNS supplies the information about which domain resolves to which IP address. When you enter a domain name into the address bar of your browser, a local name server contacts the name server of the concerned domain and gets the IP address for the same. The name server then caches the IP address in order to facilitate further communication. This way it the name server would not have to be contacted when the domain is visited again.

Data centers, DNS and Google index update share a crucial relationship. When the Google index update takes place, all the data centers don’t receive the new index simultaneously. Rather, the new index is transferred to the data centers one after the other. Hence, when users search for something on Google, they can either receive results from data centers having the old index or they can get results from the ones having the new index depending on their geographical location. This is the reason for variance of search results during the Google Dance!

Learn To Blog

The topic of blogging, especially for those hoping to earn an income is a surprisingly complex endeavour. As such this brief article, made for those wanting to reach an overall understanding of blogging, won’t go into very much detail about the topic.

Blogging is a simple form of writing that doesn’t require mastery of the English language. This is an important tip to keep in mind. Bloggers often take advantage of brief entries, bulleted lists, and images. Naturally, written material is the substance of blogging, and if you really hope to make blogging a reliable income source, you must first break the habit of sloth. You should choose a subject that you are interested in while, at the same time noting the amount of Search Engine competitors you may face.

Step number two for those wanting to blog is to pick out a blogging service. These are all easy to use, both for those wanting to utilize their blog as a journal and for people hoping to earn cash. Two solid blogging services are TypePad.com and Xanga.com.

The last step, and the most significant one, for people with the burning desire to earn money from their blogging attempts, is to build a reader base by generating traffic. Many alternatives are available to help you accomplish this. Some of these involve submitting articles (based on your blog entries) to different article directories; and, utilizing blog tracking sites like Pingomatic, which promote your blog. Of course, the superior method of generating traffic is to attain a top Search Engine position. The examples shown above can play an essential role in this. The significance of Search Engines in getting blog traffic highlights a catch 22 for people who are blogging with the purpose of making money. You need a substantial number of visitors to get indexed on Search Engines, nevertheless Search Engines are the major source of web traffic. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done when attempting to get your blog moving, but once your rankings start to rise, it’ll be well worth the sweat.

No discussion about blogging is perfect without noting the importance of content. People who want to be educated in blogging must ensure that they are consistently contributing original content to their blog. If not then no amount of effort will create the quantity of web traffic required for you to make money.

3 Lucrative Ways to Make Money With Blogging

Believe it or not, but it’s actually possible to make money from blogging. One teenager has, in fact, earned $5,000 a month just from making posts on his blog! Of course, not every blogger is this lucky. It does take some skill, and some luck to make money from blogging. What it also takes is some knowledge of how exactly to generate income just by posting blogs. We will go over three specific methods of making money on your blog: Adsense, Pay per Lead, and Affiliate Links. So how exactly do I make money on my blog? You do it by working with another company that wants to use your blog as a form of advertising. It sounds like selling out, right? Not exactly. The advertising can be as in your face or subtle as you want. And it can still make you money, provided you have enough visitors to your blog. What is Adsense? Adsense is a program offered by Google. The program, if installed, will display ads provided by Google.
How do I get Adsense? You’ll need to go to Google.com, first. At the bottom of the screen is a link for Advertising Programs. Click on that. Then click on the link for Adsense. Scroll down on the page that comes up and click here to Apply! You then fill out the form with information about yourself. After 12-48 hours, Google will notify you via email whether or not your site has been accepted. When you’ve been accepted, set up your ads by doing either of the following: If your blog is hosted on Blogger.com, you can set up your AdSense ads by going to your profile, selecting settings, template, add an element. Then select AdSense and login with your account info. Next, you’ll configure your ads and save the template. That’s it. If you are self-hosting your blog, you’ll have to set up AdSense in more of a manual way. You’ll create your ads (which can be as small or as tall as you want) and then copy the HTML/JavaScript code Google gives you. Then you’ll paste it into your blog (on the left, right, or top of the screen). For the first few days, the ads displayed by Google will be Public Service Announcements. After the ads have been up a few days, though, the ads will switch to ads that are relevant to your blog.
How does Adsense work? Every time a visitor clicks an Adsense ad, you get a little bit of money (usually around 30-60 cents). The amount you get for each ad clicked depends on the number of unique visitors you receive on your blog. The more visitors, the more money that can be earned. Google will then send a check or pay you through Paypal once you’ve made at least $100 from the ads. It is important to remember that Google will penalize you if you click your own ads, or if you ask visitors specifically to click ads. So don’t do that! Pay per Click Pay per Click is basically just like AdSense, except you don’t just work with Google you work with multiple companies. BidVertiser is one such company you can sign up with to do pay per Click advertising. How do I get Pay per Click You sign up with a site like Bidvertiser and then follow their instructions to set up the Pay per Click ads on your site. How does Pay per Click work? It works by paying you money each time someone clicks an ad that you display. You won’t get paid for multiple clicks from the same user in the same visitor, nor will you get paid for someone simply visiting your site.
You only get paid for legitimate clicks. Affiliate Links Affiliate links are basically links which people pay you for. Companies will actually pay owners of popular blogs to post links on their blog. You can do as much Affiliate linking as you want. How do I get Affiliate Links? You can get Affiliate links by searching or Affiliate Link Programs on the internet. Once you find an Affiliate link program that looks good to you, sign up for it. Then you can follow their instructions for putting the link(s) on your blog. How do Affiliate Links work? Like the other two methods mentioned above, Affiliate links work by paying you money each time they are clicked. You get paid for each click per unique visitor. So now you have it, three legitimate ways to make money from blogging. It is important to keep in mind that the amount of money you are able to make depends on how many visitors your blog draws. If you draw a lot, you’ll make a lot. If not, the money you earn will be modest. But it’s still extra money, so keep doing it! Making money using Adsense, Pay per Click or Affiliate Link programs is easy and effective. Start monetizing your blog today!

7 Top Blog Design Tips

Most blog platforms come with some

basic blog designs. They may call them

templates or themes or something similar,

and usually they are not bad although

some customisation is pretty common. I

often see some common mistakes, and

hopefully you will be able to avoid them.

1.    Include an about page

Make it prominent and make it truly

about you, not some resume-like page.If

people find your blog and like what you

have to say, they are going to want to

know something about you.

2.    Have contact information

visible

An email or maybe even a phone

number should be included. Your email

can be displayed as a graphic to

prevent spammers from harvesting it

easily. I would suggest using an address

that has your domain at the end to be

more professional. e.g tyrone @

internetbusinesspath.com, rather than

tyrone @ gmail.com.
Visible contact information will make you

seem more real and although people

may occasionally contact you, it will be

far less often than you might think.
3.    Include a picture of yourself

Blogs are personal, even business blogs,

and people who visit yours will want to

know what you look like. It’s also easier

to built trust if your picture is visible.

Though, you don’t absolutely need a

picture, but it’s strongly recommended.

Sometimes people might think you are

hiding something if you don’t have one.

4.  Show a top posts or articles page

Some of your blog posts are going to be

much more popular than others (you

may be surprised which ones they are). I

call these your pillar articlesDon’t bury

your pillar articles, your most popular

blog posts. Highlight them somehow. You

might for example have a top posts

section in the titlebar or sidebar.
I have a most top articles section and I

list my most popular posts based on the

ones that are read the most. Other

people do it slightly differently. For

example, Brian Clark at

copyblogger.com has a “Popular

Articles” in his sidebar and under that he

lists his most popular blog posts. Yaro

Starak, on his blog

Entrepreneurs-Journey, calls his most

popular blog posts “Popular Articles”

and lists them at the very top.Somehow

or another highlight them. You might do

something as simple as create a

category called “most popular” and

include popular blog posts in that

category.

5.    Don’t have a blog banner that

is too big!
The banner is the top portion of your

blog that goes across the top. It might

have a picture of you there, the name

of the blog, perhaps some graphic —

they vary quite a bit.You don’t want your

banner to be big. No one should need to

scroll down to see your content. People

decide really quickly when they first

reach a Web Site, and that includes

blogs, whether to read or to leave.

6.    Create a visually appealing

blog
Avoid bright colors. Stick to reasonable

fonts like Times New Roman and Arial.

Have someone with a good eye look at

your blog, preferably a graphic

designer. Everytime I start a blog and

I’ve started dozens for myself, for friends,

and for clients, I always get a graphic

designer to at least look at it after I am

done.
The problem is that it might look OK to

you or me, probably neither having a

particularly good eye nor appropriate

training, but it still might look really ugly to

others. Having a graphic designer take a

quick look at it is good insurance.
7.    Keep it simple silly!
Some blogs are just so busy: they have

one, two, sometimes three sidebars just

crammed full of all kinds of stuff. With

some of it you wonder why is it there.

What purpose does this serve? Now in

my opinion calendars are a prime

offender. What good is a calendar

there? Some people like them, but to me

they serve no purpose.
Empty space in a blog is not only

allowable, but it’s a good thing. It helps

focus eyes on what is important, which is

your content and hopefully the few

things you choose to put in your sidebar.
Most blogs start with a basic template

which is then customised over time.

These tips will hopefully help you that

with customisation and help you avoid

common mistakes with blog design.

Domain Name Brokerages

April 30th, 2009 admin No comments

How To Acquire a Domain Name

So you have a website or idea for a website but the domain you have in mind has already been registered. You have looked around at other potential domain names but that one name would really go well and you understand the importance of a good domain to push your future brand or website.

When domain names are registered with what is their “registry” through a registrar they much be assigned contact information to the owner much like a house or car. You can go to what is called the “whois” and find this contact information with an email, phone number and/or name of the owner. Unlike a car or house though this information can be blocked by the owner and a good amount of time with generic domains owners have done this. What to do?

If a domain is not blocked you can contact the owner yourself, would I recommend this? No. I am going to assume that you the reader do not broker or handle domain names for a living so why not contact someone who does? Sure we will ask for a commission but we have a better chance of acquiring the domain you want at a more reasonable price since we know more about the industry.

If the contact whois is blocked NameConnect.com can still contact the owner since we know most registrar owners, we have numerous contacts in the domain name industry and will handle all of the legwork in acquiring the domain name for you.

If anything, we are willing to sign an NDA, hear your needs and wants and advise you for free on what we think would be the best approach to acquiring that perfect domain!

Street Blogging

April 30th, 2009 admin No comments

Revisiting Wall Street’s Bias!

REVISITING WALL STREET’S BIAS! June 20, 2008.

No matter where we are in a cycle an investor listening to Wall Street representatives on financial TV shows, or seeing their advice in financial publications, hears only that they should be buying stocks somewhere, never anything about taking profits, or heaven forbid, repositioning for the downside by selling short, or buying inverse mutual funds and etf’s.

To hear Wall Street tell it, there is no time that it’s wise to sell, no time that it’s wise to take profits. Oh sure, after a big decline has created serious losses in a sector or the overall market, Wall Street’s advice turns to talk of if the bottom might be near, whether it’s time yet to buy the tech stocks, or the financials, or the home-builders again, implying that, although you didn’t hear it from them, there certainly had been a time to sell them.

But that would be market-timing you say. And Wall Street tells us the market can’t be timed. Even after two hundred years of the most successful investors in each generation, hedge funds, corporate insiders, and mutual funds, proving otherwise, too many investors still believe it.

There are forces at work that prevent Wall Street firms from admitting how well market-timing works, even though that is the strategy they use for their own money.

To begin with, there’s no profit for Wall Street firms, only problems, if they tell investors when to sell.

Among the problems, a firm that issues a sell recommendation will reap the wrath of the corporation whose stock they advise selling. They will certainly not get their share of the company’s future investment banking business. In addition, mutual funds that own the stock will be angry, and mutual funds are far bigger customers of brokerage firms than are individual investors. When the time comes to sell a stock, or a lot of stocks, mutual funds want to quietly unload their portfolios while individual investors are still buying. Otherwise who could they sell to?

It might help investors realize the game Wall Street plays if we recall the late 1990s.

In 1997, Wall Street was pushing the Internet sector hard, which was a good move that worked until 1999, pulling investors into those stocks, with most making good paper profits. But investors were not told to take their profits in 1999. It was only investors thinking for themselves, and noticing that those who were recommending Internet stocks, including the founders who dreamed them up, the venture capitalists who financed them, and the institutions that were favored with the shares in the initial public offerings, were selling them as soon as lock-up periods ended. They were not holding them for the long-term growth that was promised.

Sure enough, the Internet stocks crashed in 1999, with no forewarning from Wall Street, except their own prior selling. The average Internet stock plunged 65% in a matter of months.

Wall Street quickly changed its story. It was the high-tech stocks that ‘enable’ the internet, those that provide the software, fiber-optics, switching networks, and the like, that were the place to be. After all, the internet is here to stay. So, no matter whether internet companies themselves make a profit or not, the high-tech sector would thrive and grow for decades.

So the high tech sector, already over-valued, soared into a bubble by March of the next year, 2000. Then, again with no warning from Wall Street, the bottom dropped out. The Nasdaq plunged 34% in a month, and was down 67% twelve months later.

And once again, while Wall Street institutions were still touting high-tech as the place for investors to have their money, the institutions themselves had been moving the opposite way with their own money.

As I reported in this column in April, 2000, “The statistics show that 81% of the selling in the tech sector over the last 6 weeks, (and it was considerable, with volume on the Nasdaq hitting numerous new daily records), was by Wall Street institutions, while public investors remained confident. Mutual funds have reported very little in the way of selling or redemptions by individual investors. Brokerage firms say they also see little increase in selling by individual investors.”

So Wall Street obviously knows when to sell, knows the market can be timed, but won’t ever tell you when to sell. That’s a decision you have to make on your own.

The market can be timed, and certainly not only by Wall Street institutions, mutual funds, hedge funds, and other so-called ‘smart money’. My Seasonal Timing Strategy (STS) has more than tripled the S&P 500 and Nasdaq over the last nine years (since it was introduced publicly in my 1999 book Riding the Bear – How to Prosper in the Coming Bear Market), with no down years and only 50% of market risk. It’s also well ahead of the market so far this year, with the Dow having fallen 8.5% since our STS exit. (We have the Aggressive Seasonal Timing Strategy 50% positioned for the downside, so far making more profits from the downside).

And in my Market-Timing Strategy my technical indicators triggered a sell signal four weeks ago, and I had my subscribers begin taking profits from upside positions, and move into downside positions, reaching 50% downside positions, 20% cash, and only 20% left in upside positions two weeks ago.

I may be wrong. It wouldn’t be the first time. But the fact that Wall Street says it’s not worried, and is still recommending retail stocks, financial stocks and emerging markets to investors, even as they plunge lower, is no reason for me to think so.

Secrets of Striking Media Gold with Blogs

If you’re in the midst of your media campaign don’t overlook pitching bloggers, especially those who are opinion makers in your industry. Why? Because in the last twelve months bloggers have gone from on-line journals and opinion pieces to newsworthy opinion drivers and in many cases, the single most reliable place to get an accurate assessment of a news item, product, or service. One of the main reasons blogs have taken this turn is because the public is increasingly distrustful of mainstream media and media outlets. Why? Because these are often viewed as being somewhat biased and beholden to sponsors, organizations and in some cases, even the government. Blogs and bloggers are beholden to no one because they are a free, unfunded source for media. Consequently the public is turning their attention more and more to these bloggers, and media relations professionals are using bloggers to help them further their efforts by spreading the word about a topic related to a book/author. We’ve seen this in our company as it relates to our Virtual Author Tours, one of the main reasons these tours are successful (read: sell books) is because whenever possible we push bloggers who are opinion makers in their industry. So if you’re convinced that bloggers need to be a part of your media campaign, what’s next? Well, first you need to find the right bloggers for your story and you need to remember that above all else be honest and disclose everything. If the blogger finds out on their own that there are parts of this story you didn’t mention, they’ll address them and this might cast a bad light on you. Bacon’s Media Group recently published a report on pitching bloggers; here are a few things they address (as well as a few ideas of our own) when going after a blog:

Know the blog. Don’t just pitch randomly, know the blog and blogger you’re going after. This means reading past blogs – all of them Don’t worry about exclusives. Bloggers love community and aren’t hungry for the exclusive like the traditional media. Follow the links. Most of the more popular blogs have links to other similar blogs; follow those links and check out those blogs because they might be worth a pitch as well. Create your own blog. It’s that community thing; bloggers want to see you’ve got an active blog as well and are a joiner. Personalize. As with any pitch you want to personalize, don’t send out a standard, generic pitch. Even truer than in traditional media, bloggers hate generic. Understand the ‘blog food chain.’ Not unlike traditional media, the bigger the blogger the tougher it is to break in so be patient and when you’re targeting bloggers make sure you have a blend of first and second tier bloggers so you don’t get discouraged.

Become a source. Once you’ve tapped into a blog, become a source for that blogger, even if it means turning a story over to someone more qualified. Try to stay on a blogger’s radar screen with relevant tips, insights and news to keep the blogger updated on their (your) industry and help them make their own blog cutting edge. Monitor the ‘blog-osphere.’ Keep an eye on other blogs by tapping into blog monitoring services like Technorati and Blogdex. This will allow you to not only follow bloggers (who may not have RSS feeds – for the full scoop on RSS sent away for our free article on Really (really) Simple Syndication but also help you determine how many times your name and book has been featured in one of the blogs you’ve pitched (bloggers may not always tell you). The mainstream media reads blogs. If you still aspire to attract traditional media air time, know this: the media reads blogs and will often consider people “experts” who are featured on a number of blogs. Also some bloggers might be attached to media outlets, which allows them to expand on stories featured in the mainstream media and offer daily updates on particular topics. Finding news-driven blogs. While you’re searching for topic-related blogs don’t overlook news-driven blogs. These are blogs that vary in topic but are driven by daily news items. If you have a story that ties into a hot news topic these blogs might be the best place for you to go. (We’ve listed a few of them at the end of this article). Saturate the market. Get your topic/story/book out there, since bloggers don’t need exclusivity you can go crazy with your pitches. But remember, the more saturated your category (for example, money, relationships, diet, and health), the tougher it might be to get to those crucial bloggers’ attention. We addressed doing a mix of first and second tier bloggers, but you might also want to consider doing second (or third) tier bloggers exclusively so you can build your reputation within the on-line market and use that as a springboard to up-tier to more prominent blogs and catch the rising stars.

Separate the good from the bad. When it comes to blogs nearly everyone has one now so how you can find those first, second and third tier blogs while staying away from the “mom and pop” type blogs that can’t really further your message? Well, first you’ll want to start with a Boolean search on Google (search string: “your topic” AND blog) and begin reviewing the various blogs that pop up. You’ll want to look for frequency in blogging (daily, weekly, etc.), tone, relevancy of material and topics/content addressed. A good way to determine this is in the posting. If the postings are all “banter” about recipes, family vacations and other personal anecdotes sprinkled in with relevant on-point material you might want to stay away from these. Why? Because good bloggers stay on-point, which also helps drive traffic to these sites. Bloggers who are just hobbyists and not opinion drivers, will differ in their postings and because of this, probably won’t attract the level of traffic other blogs get.

To give your new blog campaign a kick start, I’ll a few of the major news blogs here. If any of these blogs seem relevant to your campaign, add them to your list of blog media and start following their entries:

With SEO, Search Engine Optimization, companies use text link marketing to get their site into the higher rankings. You can use auctions where you bid only on what you think you need, or through a brokerage, you can buy and sell text links. Just like with banners you can change exchange links too.

Bookmark technology and ways to use them has come a long way. Most agree that getting someone to bookmark your site will lead to future sales. People rarely ask for a customer bookmark their site though. There are software programs that you can use to make book marking a snap. All you have to do is to provide a link and your customers can bookmark easily. Some Javascript software will automatically bookmark your site for your customer. There is a small fee involved for you. A simple “Please bookmark this site” button is often enough to get the customer to bookmark. Certain software will also add a special icon when the customer saves the site. This makes it easy to standout from the other bookmarked sites. Pop-ups help you to get your customer to bookmark too. New ingenuous software will remind your customer to bookmark as they are leaving, and even to bookmark with their permission.
