Could You Be the World’s Greatest Stock Trader?

Maybe you would like to be a stock trader, but you’ve always been scared to give it a try. After all, laying your hard-earned money on the line is a frightening proposition, especially if you have no experience as a trader.

But how can you possibly get experience as a stock trader without first becoming a trader? It’s a Catch-22 – or is it?

Paper Trading – Be a Risk-Free Stock Trader

A great way to get started as a trader is through paper trading. Paper trading, despite the fancy name, is really just “imaginary” trading. You become a stock trader on paper only, with no money on the line.

Here’s how you do it: First, buy a journal. You’ll record your trades in it. Next, determine how much of a “fantasy” budget you’ll give yourself as a paper trader.

If you want to become a stock trader for real, you should probably give yourself a realistic spending limit – whatever you might be able to start your real career as a trader with.

Then, each day you should record your trades in the journal, with the date and time of the trade at the stock’s real price – no cheating!

Do You Know Another Wannabe Stock Trader? – Get Your Friend Involved

The best thing you can do to keep yourself honest as a paper trader is to enlist the help of a friend. Instead of using a journal from the office supply store, create an online journal.

This can be your very own stock trader blog, or perhaps just a simple, free message board. No matter what format you use, make sure that your posts are time-stamped. Then, enter your buys and sells on the message board, so that the real time is displayed.

You’ll stay honest because your friend could go on Yahoo! Finance and find out what the real price of the stock was at any given minute.

Don’t Limit Yourself to Buying and Selling – Use Advanced Strategies Too

Another great thing about being a paper trader is that it allows you to try out advanced strategies. Have you ever wondered how options work? You can give them a try. How about shorting stock?

Record a short on your stock trader blog and then reap the imaginary rewards as the stock goes down, instead of up.

You can even do things like trade foreign currencies, buy and sell commodity contracts, and get involved in futures – the possibilities are limitless! Just make sure that you keep yourself honest.

Otherwise, you aren’t doing yourself any good, and when you finally graduate to being a real trader, you could lose your shirt.

You Can Be The World’s Greatest Stock Trader – But It Will Take Work

Paper trading is a great way to learn about the market, and it’s a ton of fun too. Other opportunities to test your trading skills are always popping up – CNBC regularly runs “fantasy portfolio” contests that work sort of like fantasy football or baseball. Last year, they even gave away a brand new sports car to the winner!

But to be a truly great trader, you’re going to have to put in some serious work too. You need to read some of the classic investment books, such as How To Make Money in Stocks by William J. O’Neil, and Reminisces of a Stock Operator by Jesse Livermore.

You should probably start watching CNBC on a daily basis and subscribe to a couple of magazines like Forbes, Fortune, and SmartMoney. If you really want to be a full-time investor, you’ll have to first invest in a subscription to The Wall Street Journal, or better yet, Investor’s Business Daily.

Being the world’s greatest trader will take a lot of work, but even if you fall short and you’re only the 500th greatest stock trader in the world, you’ll still be rich beyond your wildest dreams!

Blogging Spam

Ways To Beat The Blog Spammers

Spamming blog’s can also be known as blog spam, comment spam and splogs. All of these are known as spamdexing. Any website that accepts and displays hyperlinks may well become a target of blog spamming.

The spamming of blogs, forums, chat rooms, etc is when comments are automatically posted that are promoting spammers sites. These comments rarely feature any text and normally just consist of the spammers link.

By doing this spammers are increasing there search engine ranking, which can result in the spammers site being listed ahead of other sites. Spammers use these chat rooms, forums, blogs, etc to post links back to their site because it is a way of getting people to visit their site and, sadly, sometimes spend money on the spammers products.

Blog spamming originates from guestbook spamming. Spammers would visit sites only to fill the sites guestbook up with numerous links taking you to their site. Guestbook’s were intended to be used by genuine visitors to the site, for them to comment on the use of the site. Spammers rarely even bother to add a comment to the various links they are posting; if they do it would simply say something like “cool site.”

In 2003 spammers really started to take advantage of the fact they could get away with posting in blogs, forums, etc. Many blog sites and forums started to add software to try and stop the spammers, but as the technology grew so did the spammers knowledge of how to get around it. Spammers started using tools such as Trackback Submitter, which allowed spammers to get around comment spam protection.

There are certain things that site owners can do to stop spammers posting. Validation tests are a way of blocking spam comments on forums, blogs, etc. A validation test is a way of showing that an actual person is posting a comment and that the comment isn’t just being automated.

A Captcha test is like a validation test, again it makes it clear that a comment is being posted by a human and not just being automated. A captcha is a combination of numbers and letters that are embedded in an image. The combination of letters and numbers has to be entered correctly in order for your comment to be posted. Spammers are already trying to get around the captcha test, with many spam tools having text recognition built into them, this is why the numbers/letters that are embedded into the image are slightly distorted so they can’t be picked up by the text recognition. However site owners have to be careful when using a captcha test as some of them are case sensitive and with the distortion of the letters it can become difficult to recognize if the letters are in lower or upper case.

Validation tests can also put some people off posting comments because the tests can sometimes be seen as a nuisance.

When spammers post comments containing website links as a way of trying to get their site at a higher ranking in the search engines, they will be faced with the possibility of their efforts failing as many links relating to spam sites, are getting altered to that Google, amongst other search engines won’t include them in the search engine ranking at all.

Spam is something that the Internet could do without but will never truly get rid of. It is important that you protect your email account and website as much as you can against spammers.

Domain Name Registry Search

September 30th, 2008 admin No comments

The Good and the Bad Domain Names

Working on improving your rank within the different search engines – especially Google – can feel like a very complicated puzzle sometimes. This maze can be extremely time consuming; especially when you just complete one effort and then find out that they’ve once again changed the rules on you – rules that you weren’t even sure of to begin with!

It is very well known that when you try to better the rank you’ve achieved with search engines, the best techniques that you can use are:

Acquiring quality inbound links
Acquiring any links to your site at all, including reciprocal links
Continually adding new, relevant, and fresh information to your site
Using a good density and placement of the right keywords Creating a website that is interesting and relevant enough that visitors who arrive spend time there.

However, what is not so well known is a major point that is missing from this list. Domain names are beginning to become extremely important with Google. It isn’t the domain name itself – that is, the words in the domain – nor how long it is, but how long you’ve had it. Google is now valuing sites that have been registered for longer, and that prove their intention to stick around for a long time.

Google is starting to give lower priority to sites that have been registered for a year or less, since they may simply be spammers who are looking for a fast dollar and then disappear.

On the other hand, for sites registered for five years or more, Google considers them serious websites or businesses that intend to exist for a good long while.

Therefore, one of the strategies important to gaining a strong ranking is to pay a little bit more money for your domain name registration to register for a few extra years, so that Google can tell that you intend to stick around for a long time. This will give your site Google value and your ranking will go up.

The problem that many webmasters are finding with this is that they either don’t have the budget for the additional years of registration, or they don’t want to register a site for a long time when they haven’t proven to themselves that the venture will be successful. They don’t want to pay for additional four or more years of registration for a project that may not get off the ground.

The decision that therefore needs to be made is how important Google ranking will be to your website. Will it be the primary part of your internet marketing effort? Will you be concentrating a good deal of your time gathering reciprocal and one-way links? Will you be working hard on search engine optimizing (SEO), possibly hiring a professional, so that your site contains the right keywords the right number of times and in the right places?

If you’ll already be putting a lot of time, effort, and possibly money into your Google and search engine ranking, then you may find that registering your site’s domain name is really a minor investment to get you started in the right direction.

It’s all a matter of balance, and making sure that you do the search engine optimizing strategy completely, and not cheap out before you can even give yourself the chance to truly shine. In fact, simply shelling out a little bit more to reserve your domain name may be the easiest part of your search engine optimizing strategy. As long as you do your homework in advance and find an affordable, or even cheap domain name registry business, then you likely won’t have to pay much more than fifty dollars to get going.

As you can see, if search engine optimizing is important to your website, it’s vital that you don’t miss the most commonly overlooked part of SEO and reserve your website for a good length of time, to prove to Google that you’re serious about building a quality, successful web presence. You’ll show that you indeed deserve to be among the top ranking websites out there. With that done, you’ll be ready to move to the next step of your SEO and watch the traffic starts rolling in.
Working on improving your rank within the different search engines – especially Google – can feel like a very complicated puzzle sometimes. This maze can be extremely time consuming; especially when you just complete one effort and then find out that they’ve once again changed the rules on you – rules that you weren’t even sure of to begin with!

How to Write a Health Blog

skip to main
|
skip to sidebar

On my blog ,www.doctorjp.blogspot.com, my mission is to turn everyone on to the healthcare secrets of natural products and foods, to warn of the dangers of certain unnatural products and procedures, and to make available the most effective, time-tested natural products in the world, wherever possible free. For example:

I have become very interested recently in the work of Dr John Sarno – his theories are turning my understanding of pain upside down. I have found that reading about his work has in itself reduced my own back pain considerably.

As far as back pain is concerned, Sarno’s thesis, crudely stated, is that much back pain is generated by emotion, particularly anger. The pain in your back is real, genuine pain — it’s not your imagination. What you are feeling is muscular pain which results from the muscle being held in tension for long periods, which deprives it of oxygen (tension myositis syndrome). But Sarno argues that what is causing you to hold that muscle in tension, for far longer than is required in normal physical activities, is a largely unconscious group of emotions. Learn to understand your emotional reactions to events, and the pain can disappear.

Over the past couple of decades, Sarno has had a remarkable level of success in treating patients who suffer from back pain of this kind, and now he has extended this work to give sufferers some insight into the possible psychosomatic causes of other physical disturbances.

Sarno, who is now 83, is Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine, New York University School of Medicine, and attending physician at the Howard A. Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, New York University Medical Center. As he will be the first to tell you, his work on back pain is not accepted by the scientific community, for a variety of reasons relating to ‘academic rigour’. However, I think there are good reasons for supposing that the 10,000 patients whom he has successfully treated for back pain and RSI probably don’t care too much about that.

Rachel’s testimonial:

“My story, in a nutshell: I had RSI for about a year and a half. By random luck, a stranger (actually, two of them) referred me to ‘The Mindbody Prescription’ by John Sarno. This was September 1999. I had chronic arm pain, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I treated my arms like they were made of fragile glass, I didn’t type at all (I used voice recognition software to do most of my work). I saw myself in the book, but I was afraid — afraid that if I believed in Sarno’s theory I might get worse, might hurt my arms more, etc. Nonetheless, over the course of the next 4 months, I gradually became more and more convinced of his theory, enough to take a leap of faith around January 2000 by choosing to take a lot of classes rather than a few (i.e. coddling my hands). By May 2000 I was very confident and was not restricting my physical activity at all. I was typing, writing, opening doors, lifting weights, everything. I still had some pain. By September 2000, the pain was gone. I was working a full-time job as a programmer, in an extremely un-ergonomic workstation, and I was completely pain-free”

If you’re interested in living a long, youthful, healthy and vibrant life this my be of interest!

another interesting article:

People with high cholesterol live the longest! This statement seems so incredible that it takes a long time to clear one´s brainwashed mind to fully understand its importance. Yet the fact that people with high cholesterol live the longest emerges clearly from many scientific papers. Consider the finding of Dr. Harlan Krumholz of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale University, who reported in 1994 that old people with low cholesterol died twice as often from a heart attack as did old people with a high cholesterol.1 Supporters of the cholesterol campaign consistently ignore his observation, or consider it as a rare exception, produced by chance among a huge number of studies finding the opposite.

But it is not an exception; there are now a large number of findings that contradict the lipid hypothesis. To be more specific, most studies of old people have shown that high cholesterol is not a risk factor for coronary heart disease. This was the result of my search in the Medline database for studies addressing that question.2 Eleven studies of old people came up with that result, and a further seven studies found that high cholesterol did not predict all-cause mortality either.

Homesick? Not Anymore With Lebanon News Plus More

Lebanese expats miss their homeland. Who wouldn’t? If you’re one of the thousands who have decided to live in another country, Lebanon news will keep your homesickness at bay. There are still other ways to keep in touch with your homeland when starting a new life elsewhere. For those interested in Lebanon politics and culture, they can have the information anytime.

Home Sweet Home in the News

If you have been wondering what is going on in the place you’ve left behind and missing the sights, all you have to do is hop online and keep in touch with Lebanon’s virtual reality. You can have the Lebanon news in your national language or in English, whatever suits you.

Armed with the latest Lebanon news, you can discuss the issues with your friends over Mezza with the indispensable pita bread washed down with Chateau Mosar from Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley or arak. It is a comforting thought and a convenience to have your favorite wines and food in the neighborhood.

Perhaps the recent news is disturbing. You can switch to blogs with a light piece on the foibles of Lebanese life in troubled times infused with humor to balance the dismal events that seem to be taking place everyday.

From online Lebanon news, you may find news of your hometown or even of the big cities where you’ve spent some hours visiting friends and shops. You may miss the smells of the busy market and the bazaars and the aroma of markuok baking in the oven. Not that you can’t have the delectable dishes and breads where you are, these are also available and you can order these online for those important family occasions.

Making A Home in a New Place

If you are contemplating to get out of your homeland check out the opportunities – USA, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and other wide spaces on the globe that offer opportunities to all. When you have decided on a final destination, gear up for the usual emotional, physical, and financial stress before you can settle down. Look up friends already established in the area to help you with your adjustment period.

So homesickness doesn’t hurt so much anymore. You have what you need – Lebanon news, delicacies, fabrics, rugs, and the much valued Lebanon wines imported from your homeland. For those who want to know more about the culture of Lebanon, they can Google everything from belly dancing to belly dancing costumes and jewelry.

Here are some tips to start a new life anywhere in the world outside the walls of Lebanon:

1. Make sure your visa allows you to work.
2. Put up a trade. Don’t go big time until you have a complete feel of the market.
3. Meet up with friends and organize a group for your recreational activities.
4. Make new friends in the workplace or in the neighborhood.
5. You can organize cooking sessions and classes with other expats.
6. Join the local belly dancing lessons or give one.

Actually, there is much to do if you want the world to know you are ready to assimilate into a new culture – although your heart is still in Lebanon. Perhaps you can be a self-proclaimed ambassador in the workplace and in the suburbs by promoting your country’s best wines and food. You can even share with them the recent Lebanon news. So say goodbye to your homesickness.

Ten Simple Tech Tips for Anyone Who Trades Off Their Name

As a speaker and formerly as a real estate sales person my name has always been one of my biggest assets. Now this is not because my name is particularly glamorous, certainly not because it’s easy to spell, but just simply because that’s how most people remember me.

I’ve always preferred that people remember me by my name because that is going to be the one constant through my life. I’ve worked for and owned different real estate agencies and have had several other companies myself – all with different names. If I was just known as that girl who worked for ABC company – ever time I changed companies, or started a new business I would have had to completely re-brand again.

In this day and age where so many of us change careers, companies and are serial entrepreneurs the only constant you can continually leverage is your name.

If you’re in a profession where your name is of huge importance consider the following tips to make sure you’re getting the most out of it.

1. Register www.yourname.com – ie: www.kirstydunphey.com

I recommend this for a multitude of reasons:

There are no restrictions on what you have to do or be to get a “.com”. In Australia to get a “com.au” it can be a little trickier (having to have a registered company name etc). Am I saying you shouldn’t also get a “.com.au” or “.co.nz” or whatever fits your locality? Absolutely not! Get them both if you like, but the “.com” is the easiest and cheapest and many people will simply try typing in “yourname.com” when guessing at your website.

If your main desire is to promote your company name, it’s a simple operation for your web designer to just redirect “yourname.com” to “yourcompany.com”

If you are best known by your employer’s company name perhaps now is the time to start personally branding more. One of the first steps to doing this effectively is to get a great domain name and an equally good website. If you ever change companies – your personal website (and its traffic/clients) go with you.

When (not if) you crack the big time, some crafty bugger out there will register yourname.com and try and make you pay through the nose for it. Nip that idea in the bud right now! Alternatively – it’s a big world out there and someone else with your name could be getting ready to buy that site right now, beat them to it. It’s a cheap investment in your future.

2. Google your name

If your website doesn’t come up first then you’ve got some work to do on search engine optimisation. Ask your web designer for some assistance here. The other way to increase your rating is to get more links to your website (more on this later).

3. Google alert your name

Setting up a “google alert” on yourself is dead simple (just google it if you’re not sure how!) It’s a great way to track how and when your name is being used online. This gives you an opportunity to see what’s working, what’s not and who’s talking about you! It also allows you to thank those people sending traffic your way.

4. Google common misspellings of your name

If you google “kristy dumphy” or other misspelled variations of my name you’ll see that my website still comes up in the number one search position. This is done by having a small amount of invisible text on my website that the search engines pick up. I learnt the hard way that people can’t seem to get enough of calling me Christie, or Kirstie or Kristy and don’t even get me started on how hard Dunphey appears to be to spell! If this ever happens to you – definitely consider this strategy.

5. Have your email as: yourname@yourdomain.com ie: brett@brettjones.com

I can never understand people who have gone to all the trouble of purchasing a domain name and setting up a website – and then don’t continue that branding on their email address! For starters, having your website and email address so similar gives people one less thing to forget. Setting it up is also as easy as getting your internet hosting company to forward the pretty email (in my case: kirsty@kirstydunphey.com) to whatever your actual email address is, (in my case kdunphey@bigpond.com) and then setting Outlook or your mail program to use the pretty email as your “reply to” email.

6. Include your contact details and a sell line on your email signature

If I want to go to someone’s website the first place I’ll go to is the last email they sent me hoping to easily get the information from there. I recommend everyone working in business has an email signature file set up and puts all the information they want someone to easily find on that email signature. For you this might include phone, fax, postal address, email, website. For me it includes my email address and my company websites. On my emails I also put a tag line about new products and a sign up link to my weekly email (www.kirstydunphey.com/weekly.html). It’s a simple soft “sell line” – but it has resulted in lots of weekly email sign ups and product sales for us.

7. Set up an auto-responder

If you don’t check emails often and don’t have someone replying your behalf while you’re out, set up an auto-responder. One that works well for a lot of my real estate clients reads something like this: “Thank you for your email. In this business it’s rare that I’m at my desk – I’m out making sales. If you need me urgently please call on my mobile phone: 0411 xxx xxx or contact my assistant Ben on ben@joansmith.com. Otherwise I look forward to reading and replying to your email when I’m back at my desk. Best wishes, Joan Smith, ABC Realty” Now before I get a bunch of people emailing me to see my auto-responder, I don’t have one. Not all these tips are “must do”s for everyone and we don’t use an auto-responder as I have a great team who check my email while I’m away.

8. If you say you do something, do it!

Loss of credibility is the biggest way to lose the power of your name. I’ve twice emailed a guy whose whole point of difference is being amazingly approachable. He claims to reply to all emails and calls and yet, I’ve heard nothing from him! It makes it hard to fully take on board his message because he’s not walking his talk. If you say something on stage, in a sales presentation, in a book or an online article – it’s a promise that will detract from the power of your name if you don’t live up to it. Another book I’ve read recently encourages readers to email for specific value ads to be emailed to them (ebooks etc). I emailed, and got no reply! A further book encourages readers to email to test the “auto responder” on the author’s email. I emailed and there was no auto-responder (the first time). However – on the good side, when I emailed this person back a few weeks later to let them know there was no auto responder – I did get it (twice on the second email actually!)

9. Have someone on staff or available cheaply who knows how to program in html

Html is the basic language used to make websites. One of the first businesses I started when I was 15 was a website design company with a friend of mine. I knew nothing about making websites, but slowly learnt basic skills over time. To this day I have used these skills on a weekly basis in most of my businesses. I’m not suggesting that everyone go out and learn how to build websites, but if you have access to someone who can quickly and cost effectively make basic changes to your website the benefits can be huge. In our case – we can change our websites to set up specific ordering pages for our VIP customers at the drop of a hat. We’ve set up special download pages for other speakers when they’ve released books. In my real estate agency we had the best website in our area because we were able to incrementally improve it on a weekly basis.

10. Write an article and leverage it

The more websites that link to your website, the higher your ranking will be in search engines such as google. Writing an article on your area of expertise and putting it out in your newsletter, offering it to other people’s newsletters and listing it in online article directories where other people can benefit from it is a great way to increase your presence and the number of links to your website.

Some are even inclined to quit their regular day job in favor of professional blogging because of all the success stories that they have been reading about. In reality, blog profit can be very lucrative especially of you have knowledge in the inner workings of the blogging business.

One way in which you can earn blog profit is through advertising that is, proving an avenue for online businesses to market their products and services on your blog site. You can also write about certain products and services on a blog site and be paid for it. It is fairly easier to become a writer for an existing blogging site than making your own blog site and making it popular.

Writing paid reviews is also a great way to make lucrative blog profit. Online businesses are always looking for bloggers to write good reviews on their products and services and they are willing to pay handsomely for it. The rationale behind paid reviews is that they become constant advertisements that will be very helpful in making more sales.

If you can manage to make your very own blog site popular, there is a very good chance that online businesses will track you down and offer to forge an advertising agreement with you which will turn into sustainable income. Serious money starts to come in when you have successfully infiltrated mainstream business.

How do I post on more than one blog within one Google Account? ,My username is showing up incorrect on friend’s blog followers list

My username is “goblinjack”, but when I tried to follow my friend’s blog on blogspot, my name on his follower list is “achod” which is the first part of my email address.  Also the profile picture I chose for goblinjack is not there, just the default blue guy.  Is there a seperate setting to choose what you’re name appears as on others’ blogs?created my own personal blog attached to my Google account, and now I am in a class where the professors who created the blog would like all of the students to sign in and post on the class blog. When I sign in, I am only able to manipulate/post to my own blog, and I cannot seem to access the class blog as I would like. Is there a protocol for adding onself to a blog? How does one access more than one blog with one account?blogging, blogger, blogspot, make money from blog

For my job, I have to find, store, and share new stuff from the Web every day. To do that, I used to live and die by my feed reader. But these days, that’s not enough; there’s too much happening too quickly to keep up with it all even by RSS. And because I work from multiple computers as well as from my iPod touch and my smartphone, I also need to be able to sync all that information across devices.

Reading

I still keep track of sites I love with the free Google Reader. Because it’s Web-based, my read and unread items are the same no matter what computer or device I’m using.

I keep three folders in Google Reader: one called Daily news for headlines from publications like the BBC, NY Times, and CNN; a second I labeled Cannot Miss for my absolute favorite blogs and feeds; and a third called Casual for blogs and sites that sometimes offer interesting information.

Right now, those three folders contain 65 feeds (down from a peak of 250 or so). One way I keep them under control: When my total unread count goes past 1000, I hit the Mark All As Read link on my Daily News and Casual folders to clear out the clutter and start fresh.

Discovering

It used to be that the first thing I did each day was review those RSS feeds. But now I visit Twitter first. It’s not just to see what my friends ate for breakfast. My watchful, link-loving friends on Twitter give me the news I need to know right off the bat.

I follow a diverse group, including folks whose interests parallel mine, others who are just plain interesting, and a few publications who push their headlines out to Twitter. These are my most trusted informants, my gateway to what’s going on right this minute.

The only problem is that I’m following almost 400 people on Twitter, and that can get unwieldy. Luckily TweetDeck helps me filter and organize status updates. I keep a special Cannot Miss TweetDeck column for people whose status updates I don’t want to float away down the river of news too quickly. Once I’ve checked out everything in that column, I scan my All Friends list for any other interesting new
